The Substance Use Issues and Community Work Course 2024/2025

The Substance Use Issues and Community Work Course 24/25 [QQ1 Level 5 evening course] is now open for application – see the attached application form & brochure and below information.

This course is delivered in collaboration with the Cork College of FET,  Morrison’s Island Campus, Cork City and is funded by the HSE. If you have any questions once you have read all the information or if you would like a hard copy of the documents posted to you please contact me.

Certification

Students who complete The Substance Use Issues & Community Work Course 2024 / 25 will receive a QQI Level 5 Component Certificate (In association with the Cork College of FET, Morrison’s Island Campus, Cork City).

About the Course

This course is designed to promote good practice among those who work (in a paid or voluntary capacity) with young people and communities who are effected by various issues.

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide a critical perspective on some of the issues that affect young people and their communities and encourages the development of coherent responses at individual and organisational level. The components (Understanding Community Development and Substance Use Issues) should support the ability of learners to work safely and effectively in youth and / or community work settings. The programme also aims to provide the participants with the necessary knowledge regarding applicable supports systems, both within and outside their communities.

Duration & Venue

The course will be run over a one year academic period on a Tuesday evening from October to April (20 weeks) in a blended format – both online and onsite in the Cork College of FET Morrison’s Island Campus, Cork City.

Entry Requirements

All applicants are required to:

  • Send the relevant application form to Cork City Partnership by Friday 30th August 2024 – [please include a passport sized photo].
  • Be 21 or over (Jan 2024).
  • Attend an online pre-entry information session on Tuesday 10th September 2024 (evening)
  • Attend a pre- arranged interview on Tuesday 17th September 2024 (day).
  • Have a Leaving Certificate or the equivalent.  Applicants are required to submit a copy of their educational certification and English language certification [if applicable]   OR alternatively arrange to complete an English Language Assessment Session on Tuesday 10.09.24  [Time/ Location: TBC]
  • Applicants are also expected to be active participants in the community in either a voluntary or work capacity.
